We get asked a lot of questions, and to help you we’ve
put together a few of the most common. “Sit, Stay, Shake a Paw!”
Q: How long does a design process usually take?
A: How long does it take to build a house? It depends on what type of house you’re building. The same principle applies to the complexity and revisions required to the design; it also often depends on the client and how quickly they can provide us with information and feedback.
Q: What do your design services cost?
A: That will depend on the size of the company and the design project requirements.
A small-business might have just one person responsible for the brand identity usage, and in this case, there would be little need for an extensive brand standards document to keep numerous team members inline with the brand integrity.
On the other hand, working with the board of directors of a large company, may need an exhaustive presentation that analyzes the internal and external communication, competition, explores a wider range of strategic variations to achieve committee consensus, finally arriving at a comprehensive set of identity guidelines.
Q: “So and So” Charges less than you, can you match them?
A: Design is not a commodity.
We take great pride in the work we do and have extensive knowledge in the field of Branding, Design, and Marketing. We work with those who value the service we provide, as it’s a long-term investment in your business. Visit our testimonials page for a few examples. You can also visit our Professional Designer Ethics + Standards page for more information.
Q: What exactly do I receive when during the process?
A: We typically meet with clients to discuss a PDF presentation that outlines one or two effective brand identity or web design solutions.
Q: Why should I choose your design studio?
At Straydog, you’re investing in quality craftsmanship. Not only are we focused on your satisfaction, our designers are certified members of the GDC.
Q: What file types do you provide?
A: Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) are the main file types provided for the brandmark (logo). Such files can be scaled to any size without loss of quality, and with the right software, clients can create any other filetype necessary (.jpg, .png, .gif, etc.).
Q: Do you create style guides for your brand identities?
A: Providing a style guide is an option, and is dependent upon individual client needs. If only one person is responsible for using the design, a style guide is not typically included in the quote. It is a very valuable item to have as your brand should remain consistent across all mediums. Guides are supplied as a PDF file, and contain instructions, such as colours, Fonts, minimum reproduction size, correct page positioning and graphic usage.
Q: How does payment work?
A: All projects require an initial deposit of 30-50%, which counts as a portion of the final payment. Large projects will be split into smaller segments, each treated as an individual project. The remaining balance on each segment will be due before work on the next segment is initiated, with the remaining balance on the final segment due before files are sent.
Q: Do you recommend a hosting service? Whom do you use?
A: Yes. We recommend Britec as our preferred Hosting Provider. They have excellent customer service and have offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, Victoria and Calgary. It can save us time and you money by choosing our preferred host.
